Week 1: Physical limits, Day 1: Explorers, Activity 2: Discovering Aotearoa

Week 1: Physical limits, Day 1: Explorers, Activity 2: Discovering Aotearoa
For this activity we would like you to think about your own experiences and your own cultural background. Where does your family come from? Do they come from Europe like Abel Tasman, Polynesia like Kupe, or somewhere else?
On your blog, please tell us about your cultural background. Where do you and your family come from?
My parents names are Ebony and Ben/Benjamin, My mother is from New Zealand in Marton. While my father was born in Tonga in Maufanga.  My father is full Tongan, and my mother is half Maori and half Australian.  So this means, i'm part Maori, Tongan and Australian, i was also born in New Zealand like my mother, but in wellington!  Here is a pepeha I made!

  1. Kia ora Toe'umu :)

Thank you for doing week one, day one, activity two. It was really cool to read where your family is from and I love how you made a pepeha slideshow. It was really creative and unique - ka pai! I lived in Wellington too a few years ago when I was studying at university, I liked it there a lot, apart from the wind and rain! What is important or special to you and your family? What language(s) do you speak?

I did my pepeha a few months ago and I enjoyed doing it as it made me think about my family, my home, and my background, although I am still trying to learn it off by heart! Here it is:

    Ko Mount Iron te maunga
    (Mount Iron is my mountain)

    Ko Cheltenham te awa
    (Cheltenham is my river/water)

Ko University of Auckland tōku kura
(University of Auckland is my school)

    Nō Tāmaki Makaurau ahau
    (Auckland is my town/city/country)

    Ko Eliza tōku ingoa
    (Eliza is my first name)

I only speak English but I would love to learn Te Reo Maori and Spanish.

Thanks for posting! I look forward to reading more of your posts over the summer :)
    Eliza :)

  2. Hi again Toeumu!
it is interesting to know that you have 4 different parts of what you are.
But that is amazing cause not allot of people in the world have 4 like you but for me I only have 3. But anyway keep up the good work.
